Our Name

The “ridge” in our name refers to a way of relating to people.

The word is taken from the writings of philosopher Martin Buber who advocated living life “on the narrow ridge.” The narrow ridge is a state of mind and heart that blends integrity, acceptance, and interpersonal skill even when dealing with contradictory opinions and values. On the ridge people meet person-to-person, not facade-to-facade. Some of the finest relationships are forged on the narrow ridge, and some of the most productive work is accomplished there.

For nearly 50 years, Ridge has taught the skills essential to this way of relating… witnessing, with each client, the truth of Buber’s ridge, and walking it ourselves as we teach others to do the same.
